Appears in his father's 1800-20 census households: as a 0-9 year old male in 1800, a 10-15 year old male in 1810, and a 16-25 year old male in 1820. Removed to Madison County, Tennessee during the 1820s and appears there in the 1830 federal census. Subsequently appears in 1840-60 federal census records in neighboring Carroll County, Tennessee.
